Week Seven: June 18th thru June 22nd

Monday:

We had our weekly Safety Meeting! I gave it today!! My safety talk was on Heavy Equipment which was important since we would have a lot more subs starting out on site bringing all types of equipment out there.

Lackey was clearing the path for Piedmont, We all took bets on how long it would be before they would turn a piece of machinery over, but good for them they did it just fine!

I didn't have a lot on my plate today so I spent most of the day out on site, watching Lackey and the other subs get to work.

Tuesday:

Today I had the pleasure of reviewing the Rebar submittal as well as the Metal Panel Submittal AND the Wood Submittal! Oh Submittals how I Loathe thee!

We had our 2nd Weekly Sub Meeting today:
Same subs plus Camful minus Wayne Jay Griffin (and boy did they get a yelling for not being there)
At the meeting we talked about how we nee 5 field use shop drawings from each sub so we can all make sure everyone is putting in the work the way it was approved by the architects
Hunter asked when Lackey would be out of the way because they are in the way of Hunter cutting and grading parking lot 2 which will be the new staging area for material when it comes in! and boy do we need a new staging area, we have truckloads of pipes, manholes, rebar, etc coming in DAILY!!

Wednesday:

We had a day of meetings today!
In the Super's Office we had our 1st daily Super Meeting. This meeting was put in to place so that we can all talk about what we have going out on site today so we can stay in communication and understand where everyone is and what subs will be out on site.
First is the Weekly OAC Meeting then the Monthly Owners meeting.
Before the Weekly OAC Meeting Eric (architect) and Anna (engineer) Reviewed and Approved the Mock- UP! We will be pouring Concrete after lunch!!!
Since the Owner's meeting goes over pretty much the same things as the weekly oac meeting, we had a quick OAC meeting and just touched on important questions and topics that needed to be addressed!
During the Owner's meeting their are tons of participants: all the A/E, Owner and Owner reps, State, Archer Western, Current Broughton Hospital staff, ECS; all in all it was about 35people

After Lunch (which we had a cookout and everyone was invited to join us) I watched concrete being poured for the mock up!! (while the mock-up was being poured Roy had me take progress photos for him!) While I was taking pictures Glen asked me if that was my Otter Box Case and I said no it's Roy's and he said he will make sure they order me an Otter Box for my Ipad because I am Field Staff! I love being Field Staff!! it has a nice ring to it!
(here are some pictures of the progress on the Mock-Up):

Thursday:

I am usually apart of the weekly Submittal meeting but this week they said I didn't need to be part of it!
Today was the due date for the Ext Enclosure drawings to be uploaded to SharePoint so I called all the subs who didn't have anything uploaded and I was told if they didn't have anything uploaded by Monday that I was allowed to send a nasty graham telling them if they don't have their drawings turned in we will start charging them back pay to get them done!!! (I'll keep you updated on the progress of that!)

Since it hasn't rained this week (keep my fingers crossed) the ground actually was a little dry so Hunter was using their water truck to wet the dirt, well the waterline we use burst!! :( NO GOOD!

Yes that is a ton of water! About 2 feet!! Don't worry tho we got the water shut off ASAP then Paul fixed the line:

While Paul was fixing the pipe he needed me to take some progress photos for him. So I went out on site by MYSELF on a Buggy to take pictures! (Don't worry I didn't get ran over!)

Piedmont was still laying pipe! And WJG put in their Duct Bank work in Site Wall 1!!

Friday:

Allied came out today and started the walls on the Mock-Up!! But they forgot to bring their Insurance information nor did they bring their Site Specific Safety Plan so that was a bummer, but we were able to let them start work on the Mock-Up but they aren't allowed to start work on site till they get it done!

Waterline Burst AGAIN!! Piedmont came and fixed it for us! Hopefully this fix will hold.

We had our staff meeting! It felt like we hadn't had one in awhile but it went well! Everyone gave their updates!! :)

Weekly Reflection:
It was a crazy week! We had many different subs come out on site this week. We had Combs doing the formwork for the site walls, we had KC International putting in the rebar behind Combs formwork, we had Piedmont Laying Pipe, Hunter Grading, WJG putting in work, Allied starting their walls, Kerr Concrete bring out the concrete, Camful mobilizing, we had our surveyors out putting in controls points and site wall and column lines and OMG it was crazy how many people we had moving around site but also amazin! :)
It's nice to finally see work getting done on site

This week I learned:
  • AWC has a lot of self performed work and the list keeps getting longer :(
  • Contracts are a funny thing, the subs can exclude things and if the people cutting deals don't put those exclusions in another subs contract: we end up getting screwed :(
  • Breaking up concrete work into many different subs causes a lot of problems (don't do that)
  • If you eat healthy in construction they laugh at you and tell you that it'll never last (apparently in construction it is totally normal to go out to eat for lunch EVERYDAY! no thanks not my style!)
